The Puerto Rican Experience (2-week special)

Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory, is a jewel of history, culture, and beauty. The island lies southeast of the southern tip of Florida by about 1,000 miles and basks in the heart of the majestic Caribbean ocean. A tropical paradise, the island is home to San Juan, the second oldest city in the Americas (after Santo Domingo) and landing point of Ponce de Leon of Spain. Puerto Rico is famous for its history of colonization to independence to commonwealth territory of the United States and is rich with divergent culture and populations ranging from African, Spanish, Taino natives, Indian and French. Today, this island of nearly 4 million is the most “Latino” spot within U.S. territories. However, let there be no mistake that the music, food, and culture are unique.
