Program Educational Directors

 Program Educational Directors

The National Hispanic Institute (NHI) carefully screens and selects its volunteer trainers and program administrators. An important consideration is that they be former participants while in high school and college. A second requirement is that they actively participate in NHI’s annual certification process as part of the organization’s continuing education initiatives to maintain high skill and knowledge levels among training faculty who directly work with participants. Certification also keeps trainers up to date with all local, state, and federal security standards and laws. The final requirement is that these faculty members have a strong understanding of NHI’s learning theories, concepts, and practices. And final requirement is that faculty members be armed with NHI training curriculum that help them schedule and guide student learning.

Much the same process holds true for other volunteer staff that include high school and college students. Because NHI places particular importance to selecting high school and college age students to also play key roles, candidates selected for training, administrative, and specialist roles also undergo background checks and an extensive training process as part of the organization’s requirements for working with students. Altogether, adult trainers consist of approximately 50-60 faculty members, while high school and college age trainers, administrators, and specialists comprise 400-475 certified volunteers per year.
